Biodiesel and Ethanol

CIMA Green leads the future of renewable energy by supporting the production, trade and use of biodiesel and ethanol. Being key players in bringing agriculture and energy together, CIMA Green promotes the nation's independence from foreign oil.

Biodiesel

Biodiesel is a clean burning renewable fuel derived from natural oils like vegetable oil, animal fats and algae. Biodiesel improves domestic energy security, and it reduces emissions significantly. It operates in conventional engines, and it does not require special storage because it is stored wherever petroleum diesel is stored.

Biodiesel is obtained by a chemical process called transesterification which was first conducted in 1853 by scientists E. Duffy and J. Patrick, years before the first diesel engine became functional.

CIMA Green offers:

  • Waste - CIMA Green manages biodiesel producers' waste products through the purchase of glycerin, glycerol and off-spec fuel.

Ethanol

Ethanol is an alcohol-based fuel made from the fermentation and distillation of starch crops, such as corn. It can also be made from cellulosic biomass such as trees and grasses. The creation of ethanol starts with the photosynthesis of feedstocks like sugar cane or corn. After the process of photosynthesis, ethanol is produced by microbial fermentation of the sugar during which pyruvate acids transform into ethanol and carbon dioxide. The use of ethanol can reduce our dependence on foreign oil because it is domestically produced, and it has lower emission of air pollutants.

  • Trading - CIMA Green serves as a marketer for the ethanol industry, connecting distillers and obligated parties.
  • Logistics - CIMA Green serves its clients' logistical needs throughout the entire supply chain:
